In France, anyone with an alcohol addiction problem can attend a meeting organized by Alcoholics Anonymous. More than 500 meetings are held throughout the country and are open to anyone without an appointment, registration, reservation, obligation, or commitment of any kind. The list of these meetings is published on the Alcoholics Anonymous website at this address: https://alcooliques-anonymes.fr/reunions-alcooliques-anonymes/
To further facilitate access to these meetings worldwide, a mobile app with geolocation allows users to easily locate the meeting closest to their location. More than 100,000 weekly meetings are listed in the Meeting Guide mobile app. This app syncs twice a day with the websites of more than 400 AA entities around the world.
For a website to sync its meetings, it must be designed with the WordPress CMS and use the plugin provided free of charge by the association to publish these meetings. This last requirement implies the following limitations:
- Many sites have already been developed with tools that do not allow native synchronization of their meetings: CMS other than WordPress, incompatible WordPress meeting plugin, etc.
- The WordPress plugin offered for publishing and synchronizing meetings could be improved, particularly in terms of its interface.
Case studies
The French branch of the association has developed a tool to publish its meetings using a WordPress plugin that is highly advanced in terms of functionality and user interface. It is therefore impossible to display the 500 French meetings in the mobile app without replacing the current meeting management module with the compatible plugin.
This choice would involve several major compromises. It would have meant sacrificing a successful meeting management system that was the result of a long development process and significant financial investment. Finally, the new system would have required further time and investment for a less successful end result.
Hub4commerce’s ETL solution made it possible to keep the existing meeting management system. No development costs were required to make this meeting system compatible with the mobile application. Hub4commerce developed a Meeting Guide connector. The existing WordPress connector was enhanced to integrate the meeting plugin into the native WordPress API. Using these two connectors, a gateway was put into production to provide the Meeting Guide application with the data in the right format to publish French meetings in the application.
